On Geekbench 6.1's CPU test, the Mac Studio with M2 Ultra earned a single-core score of 2,819 and a whopper of a multi-core score of 21,802. But to see its place in the pro realm, we do need to test against others' chips. Keep in mind, Apple hasn't just built a chip. Both the Intel and AMD systems also used 128GB of RAM, like our Mac Studio. We also have some numbers for the 64-core Threadripper PRO 5995WX, with an MSRP of $6,499 (only $300 less than the Mac Studio we tested!) though it's selling for $5,699.99 as of this writing. On the Ryzen side, we looked at the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 5975WX, a 32-core workstation CPU on a 7 nm process with an MSRP of $3,299, though during our testing the chip was selling for $2,699. On the one hand, this is admittedly a bit of an unfair comparison, as that chip has 56 CPU cores (all performance cores) and, at a recommended customer price of $5,889, costs almost as much as the entire Mac Studio computer we're reviewing! It does, however, pit Intel's best (which Apple opted not to use in its switch to Apple Silicon) against Apple's best. On the Intel side, there's the Intel Xeon w9-3495X, the latest Xeon we've tested (and the only current one we have on hand). In some cases, we compared it to the M2 Max, which we last saw in the 16-inch MacBook Pro.īut we also tested against workstation chips. The M2 Ultra also has 800 GBps of memory bandwidth.įrankly, we don't test very many pre-built workstations, but I still ran some benchmarks to put the M2 Ultra through its paces. Apple uses a separate media engine to accelerate video processing with dedicated hardware for H.256, HEVC, and ProRes encoding and decoding. The SoC's GPU comes with either 60 or 70 GPU cores (we tested the latter), and every M2 Ultra has a 32-ore neural engine. M2 Ultra has 24 CPU cores: 16 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores. There are 134 billion transistors on what is easily Apple's largest and most powerful chip. The M2 Ultra is built on a 5 nm process and uses what Apple calls UltraFusion to connect the dies from two M2 Max SoCs (they appear as a single chip when it comes to apps). Are you a photographer or a videographer? Do you make 3D renders? Are you working on machine learning? Then maybe this is for you - but even then, only if you need a ton of horsepower. Our model, with an M2 Ultra, weighs 7.9 pounds thanks to a beefy copper thermal module (the M2 Max configurations are 2 pounds lighter with an aluminum cooler).Īpple M2 Ultra (24 CPU cores - 16 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores)Ģx Thunderbolt 4, SDXC card slot (UHS-II)Ĥx Thunderbolt 4, 2x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A, HDMI, 3.5 mm headphone jackħ.7 x 7.7 x 3.7 inches (197 x 197 x 95 mm), 7.9 pounds (3.6 kg) It's an aluminum block with rounded corners and a big shiny Mac logo on top, that measures 7.7 x 7.7 inches wide and deep and 3.7 inches tall. It tucks in nicely under the Mac Studio display, and that should be similar under many other screens. It's a desktop that has no problem fitting on, well, a desktop, even under a monitor. Apple Mac Studio M2 Ultra (24 CPU cores, 76-core GPU, 4TB SSD, 128GB Unified Memory) at Apple for $6,799Īs far as workstation-class machines go, the Mac Studio is petite. Those users may want to consider the Mac Pro, which also comes equipped with the M2 Ultra, but in a bigger case that includes PCIe slots to add sound cards, storage cards, and more. But if you need expansion, the Mac Studio may not fit your bill, as it's not upgradeable. The M2 Ultra delivers some significant improvements over Apple's other chips. The short take: If you're a Mac user that needs a lot of power, we think you're going to come away impressed.

“There’s something I need to talk to Zuko about… alone.”Ī remark that, once, might have earned a joke or two from her older brother. “I’ll come with you!” said Aang as he airbended himself up too. She left her untouched bowl of congee before her. “I’m gonna go check on him,” said Katara as she rose from her spot in their little circle. Or he doesn’t want Snoozles stealing all his food.” He’s been doing this since the Western Air Temples. “’Cause he always does this, Sweetness, in case you haven’t noticed,” the girl replied. “Why didn’t he say anything?” Katara asked. “Sparky’s in his room,” Toph answered, her milky green eyes staring into nothing in particular, as she laid back against Appa and ate her own congee sloppily. Yet, it felt strange to her that he wasn’t huddled around them during dinner. He’d more than proven his sincerity to the cause long ago – to her, specifically, more recently – and so none of them had any such particular reason to be wary of his disappearance. Katara knew now, of course, that there was no reason to mistrust him anymore. It was still difficult to think of him as such. “Huh?” Aang echoed as the others mimicked the motions of the group looking up and around them to look for their missing new friend. It sounded so much like old times that it sounded wrong, almost – like there was something missing. Still, she felt herself go rigid at the sound of his humour and at the sound of their little group’s easy bickering. There was fury in her – a quiet rage that she had bottled in. And there was so much that he didn’t know and refused to understand. Rationally, she knew how irrational she was being for her irritation at him but he was just so young. She knew it wasn’t fair for her to be angry with him he’d meant well, she knew. Katara grit her teeth at the sound of his voice. “You must’ve eaten more than Appa by now!” “Yeah, Sokka!” Aang joined in, easy mirth in his voice. “How can you still be hungry after two whole bowls?” Suki teased as she mixed the contents of her bowl together. “I said,” he replied, swallowing his food with particular gusto, “are you gonna eat that?” “Hmm?” she felt herself asking, though she’d heard him. “Are you gonna eat that?” Sokka asked, breaking her out of her reverie, his mouth still full while he continued to gorge on his second helping of the stuff. The heat of the ginger wafted up to her senses, warm and inviting, and yet she found the thought of eating anything to be… unsavoury, to say the least. She blew on her hot congee, the sad shreds of roasted turkeyduck seemingly drowning in the droll white seas of rice. They found temporary sanctuary in the home of the enemy there was poetry in there somewhere. None of them particularly felt comfortable in the Royal dining room – with its too-long table and the large, ominous portrait of the enemy hanging over them. Katara couldn’t hear what the others were saying over the roaring fire that flickered in the middle of their little circle. As if goodness were all she was capable of when darkness, when shadows lingered in her veins still. She was no angel, no saint, no infallible spirit or goddess – and yet, how they treated her as if she were. The others simply accepted how she had chosen not to do it, as if her mercy was so easily and heartily given. It boiled beneath her skin – words unsaid, grief unspoken. This is something that you'll remember for the rest of your life.“ I am a question to the world Not an answer to be heard Or a moment that's held in your arms.” That moment 12 years ago is something I'll never forget, and it's a moment too where I look at the first year, ladies next to me and I say, 'This is it. And then the beat drops and the Rockettes start the Christmas Spectacular. There's just so many memorable senses that come with that moment. You can hear the jingle bells on your shoulder, you can feel the fog underneath your feet. And when the grand contour rises in the front, you can see the audience just waiting in anticipation. If they get warm - even a little warm - they get soft, and if they get soft before they hit the oven, they have less of an ability to make the dough flaky. So how do you keep those butter pieces visible? You keep them cold. When you make pie dough, your entire goal should be to keep some of these eensy bits of butter visible.Ĥ. (The principle behind puffed pastry is the same, but we will get to that another day.) These pockets are your flakes. When these butter-speckled doughs hit the oven, the butter melts created tiny pockets in the flour that surrounded it the steam that escapes from the butter’s water content lifts these pockets. If you cannot see flecks of butter in your final dough, you will miss out on a lot of flakiness. As I mentioned above, the single most important thing to avoid when making pie dough is not to break down the butter too much. In the end, it is so much harder to overwork your dough and overmix your butter by hand than it is when you use the food processor.ģ. This is where this technique fails: you already have the size butter pieces you want and yet still, you crumble the further. Here is why: The vast majority of food processor dough recipes tell you to pulse the butter with the flour until it forms coarse or pea-like bits, and then add the water and pulse it until “just combined”. Ooh, how very contentious of me! Yet, I am not saying this to be contentious, I am saying this because I have made dozens of crusts in both the food processor and with a hand-held pastry blender and the latter always wins the flaky wars. I no longer use the food processor for pie dough, and don’t think you should either. So butter it is baby! I’ll never doubt it again.Ģ. Do you know why? Well, for all of the original reasons–flavor rules and ickiness is not worth it–but because I have also realized that when you really know how to make pie dough, it won’t matter which fat you use. I did this for about two years, and now I’m back to all butter, baby. All the Cook’s Illustrateds and Ina Gartens claimed that the only! best! way to make the flakiest! pie dough was to use shortening in part, and I do value their opinions so. It had no flavor, it is rather icky and mysterious if you give it too much thought, and who cares about flakiness in a one-crust pie anyway? But then I weakened my resolve. For most of my life, I didn’t believe in shortening in crusts. These are opportunities for users to ensure their equipment can receive the new signal before the old one at Rugby is switched off. During these periods the signal at Anthorn will be switched on for short periods of time. The switch will follow a three-month test period between January and April 2007. The National Physical Laboratory is home to the nation’s atomic time and one of only five laboratories worldwide using the latest caesium fountain to contribute to the world time standard Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).The signal’s transmission is tied to NPL’s atomic clocks at Teddington in South West London. It helps synchronise servers for businesses and enables Packet-Switching, the protocol used to send and receive information across the internet. The signal is also used in homes and offices around the country. These include 999 communications, rail networks, cash machines and mobile phone networks. The time signal is accurate to within one thousandth of a second and supports a range of professional services. The signal, often referred to as ‘The time from Rugby’, will be known as ‘The Time from NPL’ from April 2007. The time signal used to set Britain’s radio controlled clocks with extreme accuracy is on the move from Rugby, where it has been transmitted since 1927, to a new home in Anthorn in Cumbria. The UK’s time signal is on the move after 80 years in Rugby. Will the switch from Rugby to Anthorn, Cumbria affect me? Domestic clocks/watches are generally refered to as either 'Radio Controlled' in the UK or 'Atomic' in America, they are both the same. The Caesium 133 Clock itself is housed under controlled conditions in a laboratory and a radio signal is transmitted which uses this clock as a referance. The term "Atomic" when applied to domestic clocks and watches purely refers to the source of the time signal. The transmitter signal is picked up by the watch or clock and sets the time and date automatically.ĭoes my watch contain any radioactive material? The atomic clock is the standard measure of time: the electron resonance frequency of the Caesium 133 atom is 9,192,631,770 cycles per second which is measured to give a time accurate to greater than +/- 1 second per million years. We stayed at the Dreams Onyx Preffered club for a Week in Nov 2023. Ronny took a simple drink like gin and tonic and dressed it up with star anise and some bitters. Marcos made great drinks too but I loved how he always used fancy garnish for the drinks to make the look pretty. For the best Bloody Mary you have to see Domingo. The preferred lobby bar there was Domingo, Marcos, and Ronny. Julio, in the preferred bar by the restaurants, made the best drink called thunder. Alejandro made it a point to come say bye to us before he left for his couple days off because we would be gone before he got back. Alejandro makes great drinks when you can’t decide what you want. Alejandro, aka drinky drinky, was there almost our whole stay. Wester, aka Wester the Bester, remembered our names and called out to us every time he seen us. Jensy would help my husband with his Spanish too. Nelis shows personal interests and we even shared stories with each other about our kids. Nelis remembered us from our first time here in 2017. Ismael was always there when you needed a drink. If your room isn’t cleaned by Raul, it’s missing something! Ismael, Nelis, Jensy, Wester, and Alejandro, in the preferred adult pool, were the best. When we would see Raul in the morning he was always so happy and friendly. There was always another bottle there for back up. Raul never let my shampoo and conditioner bottles run out. is who cleaned our room daily and he was excellent! Raul made sure we always had clean towels and bottles of water for brushing our teeth. If you don’t have Franklin as your butler, you’re missing out! Raul L. If Franklin hadn’t heard from us, he made sure to text or come look for us. Franklin had decorated with rose petals, balloons, candles, and swan towels. When Franklin found out we were there to celebrate our 25th anniversary, he arranged a special surprise for us when we came back to our room. Franklin let us know we could make reservations for dinner through him which we didn’t know we could do since it says no reservations needed. Franklin was our butler and he was excellent. The best thing about preferred was the people we met. I think that needs to be improved so the ones who paid extra for preferred are the ones actually getting the benefits. There were a couple teens in the preferred adult pool and one day there was even 2 kids under 10 yo in there. So really anyone can walk into the preferred bars and pools and chances are no one checks to see if you’re preferred. The only time they checked if we were preferred is for the breakfast and lunch. I don’t know how I feel about the preferred. We just texted our butler and he got us ours. Another couple we talked to didn’t have either. We didn’t have the beach bag which I wouldn’t have known about except I asked someone how so many people have the same bag and she said it was in her room at check in. Some had one or the other and some had neither. Some preferred rooms had beach bags and a bottle of rum on the first day. It shouldn’t have been that difficult to get cash so we could tip. We eventually had to walk to the bank at the shopping plaza to get money. But we found out that the person wouldn’t receive the whole amount. Then we asked if we could leave a tip on our credit card at check out for certain people, which we could. We felt if your ATMs aren’t working then that fee should be waved. So for us to get $100 out it would have cost us $33. To get cash at the exchange, I think that’s what it was called, would cost $19 to get $100 plus what my bank would charge. The ribeye was not very good at several restaurants. Especially the fresh grilled mahi mahi for lunch. My favorite thing was any of the fish they had. We were both nervous about staying that long but we had a great time. Recycled into: Insulation, light switch plates, egg cartons, vents, rulers, foam packing and carryout containers.I send a text message to my friend. Because foam products tend to break apart into smaller pieces, you should place them in a bag, squeeze out the air and tie the bag up before putting it in the trash to prevent pellets from dispersing. How to recycle it: Not many curbside recycling programs accept PS in the form of rigid plastics (and many manufacturers have switched to using PET instead). Most places still don't accept it in foam forms because it's 98% air.įound in: Disposable plates and cups, meat trays, egg cartons, carryout containers, aspirin bottles and CD cases. The material was long on environmentalists' hit lists for dispersing widely across the landscape and for being notoriously difficult to recycle. Styrene monomer (a type of molecule) can leach into foods and is a possible human carcinogen, while styrene oxide is classified as a probable carcinogen. PS (polystyrene) can be made into rigid or foam products - in the latter case, it's popularly known by the trademark Styrofoam. Recycled into: Polar fleece, fiber, tote bags, furniture, carpet, paneling, straps, bottles and food containers (as long as the plastic being recycled meets purity standards and doesn't have hazardous contaminants). There's no need to remove bottle labels because the recycling process separates them. When it comes to caps, our environmental pros say it's probably better to dispose of them in the trash (since they're usually made of a different type of plastic), unless your town explicitly says you can throw them in the recycle bin. How to recycle it: PET or PETE can be picked up through most curbside recycling programs, as long as it's been emptied and rinsed of any food. Its recycling rates remain relatively low (around 20%), even though the material is in high demand by manufacturers.įound in: Soft drinks, water, ketchup and beer bottles mouthwash bottles peanut butter containers salad dressing and vegetable oil containers The PET does not degrade easily during the recycling process and thus has a lower risk of trapping decomposition products that can then leach out. PET or PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) is the most common plastic for single-use bottled beverages because it's inexpensive, lightweight and easy to recycle. Of course, the symbols themselves need explaining too. Even if there isn't a way for your town to recycle a certain material, he says there's still a chance they might collect it anyway and either store it or dispose of it. Plus, "there are times when your recycling program may change what it collects," says Mike Brown of Brown and Wilmanns Environmental, one of Good Housekeeping's environmental consultants. How to know what plastics can be recycledĮvery town and city has different recycling programs, so you'll often have to check your location's rules to find out exactly what you can recycle. Here, our environmental experts share what each plastic recycling symbol means, plus examples of where each symbol is found and how to recycle it. From helping you decode "eco-friendly" claims to sharing the winners of our Sustainable Innovation Awards, we're here to help you make smart decisions for your home and the environment. Here at the Good Housekeeping Institute, our team is passionate about sustainability and the environment. FYI: Just because a product has the chasing arrows symbol doesn't mean it's recyclable - it's just an indicator of the type of plastic. While the universal plastic resin symbol (three chasing arrows forming a triangle) remains the same, the numbers one through seven inside make a significant difference. With all the different rules and symbols, it can be confusing for consumers to figure out exactly what each plastic recycling symbol means and how to recycle it. Many plastics can be recycled in theory, but according to the United Nations Environment Programme, less than 10% of plastic waste generated worldwide has ever even been recycled. That figure is expected to increase exponentially by the year 2025, according to the study. In fact, a study published in the journal Science and reported widely by the World Economic Forum estimated that 8.8 million tons of plastic packaging ends up in our oceans every year. The material is in our cars, toys, packaging, clothing, home goods, food utensils and so much more - but it's also littering our streets, clogging our waterways and choking marine life. Sometimes it seems like everything in modern America is made of plastic. The United States had a throttling rate of 14 percent, whereas the United Kingdom was the second most throttled country in Europe with 28 percent, beaten only by Poland with 35 percent.
